Sen. Tom Cotton on Russia [VIDEO]

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.). Image from MSNBC interview.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) appeared on MSNBC with Chuck Todd on Jan. 5 and noted that the U.S. has been unconcerned with Russian influence operations and other actions directed against the United States until after the 2016 presidential election, echoing what SCI noted in December.

Cotton had a relatively lengthy conversation with Todd about Russian aggression and other matters. And at one point he talks about how the U.S. has known about Russian cyberattacks, influence operations, and other activities for years yet has chosen to do nothing about them.

Cotton’s comments are quite similar to what SCI wrote on Dec. 16 in, “Did Obama Work with Putin to Discredit Trump’s Election?”.

And Obama and the rest of the U.S. government knew since Obama was elected that foreign actors actively work to conduct cyberattacks on U.S. government and private systems. Every ODNI threat assessment from 2009 through 2016 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) has emphasized this—and in many years the assessments have listed Russia and China as the number one threats.

Cotton also issued an official statement on Dec. 29 noting that Obama’s response to Russian actions have come far too late.
